about

Our love for British poppers The Pencils goes back to the early 80’s when we first bought their UK-only released singles. In 2012 we released “Anthology”, a 2CD set that featured their one and only album, a non-LP single B-side, a live track and a cache of previously unreleased demos. Nearly 2 years in the making, “Redrawn” is a brilliant, inspired tribute to the band’s recorded output that features performances by 23 artists that demonstrate that, even after 40+ years, a great song is still a great song even when re-imagined! The 2CD set presents their only album in its original running order, (minus their cover of Carole King’s “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” - replacing it with a non-LP single B-side) that features Ian M Bailey, Jenny K, Coke Belda, John Howard, Jamie Cook, Moon Dancer, Automat (featuring David Doll), Nick Frater, Doublepluspop, The Poppermost, threeleggeddog, The 1957 Tail-Fin Fiasco, The Embryos, The Stayawakes, The Jetz, The Glad Machine, Ex Norwegian, Papernut Cambridge, Parallax Project, Jim Trainor, Brent Seavers and Sunbourne Rd. A bonus track on Disc 2 has the Pencils backing British singer Tom Mardell doing “If You Really Wanna Hurt Somebody” on what was intended to be released as a single by him. “When Ray Gianchetti at Kool Kat Musik suggested a 2CD tribute to The Pencils, with the profits going to a charity, we were thrilled and humbled. Thrilled that so many different artists from around the world would be reinterpreting songs that we’d written and recorded 40 years ago. Humbled that the wonderful artists featured on this collection were all giving up their time and efforts in order to participate. It's been fascinating for Tony and I to listen to these ‘reinterpretations’, as we recently did together at my home. There are tracks where some of the participants have remained relatively faithful to the original arrangements that we ourselves employed when we first recorded them, and there are also other tracks where those arrangements have been mercilessly ripped to shreds and set fire to! Either way, each and every recording has been a joy for us to hear. We are truly honoured by this album.” - Den Pugsley and Tony Skeggs Since our inception in 1981, Kool Kat Musik is proud to have donated over $300,000 from sales to various charities and worthy causes! AS DECIDED BY THE BAND, ALL PROFITS FROM THE SALES OF “REDRAWN” WILL BE DONATED TO THE ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY IN THE UK! GREAT!!
